There’s nothing fussy or delicate about this chest of drawers. It’s a tough piece that wouldn’t even surrender its drawer pulls to me… Seriously, I couldn’t even loosen the screws. Its seemed appropriate to reflect its strength in the paint treatment.
My favorite pieces are the ones that sit quietly in a room, doing their job as they reflect calm beauty. They don’t scream for attention or demand accolades. This piece, even in its pre-painted state, seemed beautiful in an unpretentious way so the paint treatment needed to compliment what was already there.
Concept
Two different shades of green are used to create the look of something that has received a few layers of paint over many decades of use. The top was sanded down then given a honey stain finish. The light stain helps to highlight the dings and imperfections on the surface, giving it a butcher block feel.
Here’s the only before shot I have. It’s not that great but gives you an idea of what it looked like.
If you have a chance, check out my work on Facebook, Pinterest, and Hometalk.
It’s available in my etsy shop!

I am 98% sure I have a companion piece from the same maker/line. Mine is a “butler’s dresser” — 5 drawers tall and the 2nd drawer down is a drop-front with cubbies inside. But the pulls, the ribbing, the construction from the side are all the same. Ours is on hidden casters. It is SOLID.
We left the finish intact; it was in better shape than yours, so we just used some Restor-A-Finish on it. But it’s fascinating to me to see what it could look like painted! I’m so pleased to see this!

Hi Elizabeth!
Thanks for the info. I also have the tall piece you mentioned that you had. It’s been painted but not yet photographed properly. Yeah… these are great solid pieces. A question… would you recommend Restor-A-Finish over something like hemp oil to fix up a finish? Thanks!!
