Quick, get the camera and move the dog out of the way! Put something on top… anything! The light pours into my favorite window and makes photography easy on mornings like these. I don’t have sophisticated camera equipment (yet) or time to set up a complicated shot, so I need to seize the moment when the sun cooperates.
Although mid century furniture isn’t my favorite, I’m thinking every house needs one piece like this to provide a nice visual break from the stuff that clutters our lives. This piece is so straight and clean that all it needed was a super clean paint job. The drawers were left as is. I didn’t even clean them. We’re not sure if we’ll keep it… I’m trying to convince my son that he needs it for his clothes by pointing how close the color is to Pittsburg Steelers yellow. He’s not buying it and would rather use the space in his bedroom to shoot hoops on rainy days!
Paint used: Benjamin Moore Advance in Spiced Mustard. I lightly sanded and primed it and applied three coats of the yellow. No sanding was necessary between coats and if you take a look at my close-up shots, you won’t see brush marks. That’s why this paint is so wonderful.

Again, I love it. I am getting ready to head downstairs and paint an old vintage piece later today. I am opting for black and white but I do really like this yellow vibe. Thanks for sharing on BeColorful.

I love mid-century modern anything, especially painted yellow! I shared a dresser on Primitive and Proper this week (that’s where I found you) that I painted with Ben Moore’s Showtime. It’s a happy yellow and similar to this one. Pinned!

Hi LInda: Thanks for the comment. MCM pieces are literally like those blank white canvases we get from Michaels! My next MCM piece will be more avant garde.

I’m a lover of MCM, and I think you nailed this project! I can see why to paint or not to paint was a struggle, but what you did in the end works perfectly. Great job 🙂

I’m a lover of good furniture and have a few mid century pieces now. I’m struggling with the paint or not to paint some of them – love your choice of yellow!

Yeah. I get you when you ponder whether or not to paint. I have another MCM piece on my “available/pick your color” page. The picture is very blurry but I’m not sure whether to leave it alone or not! We’ll see.

Hello, I really love the yellow too, I shy away from that color, great inspiration. Love the piece.

Thank you! Yellow can be great but the wrong yellow can be disastrous. Try this shade if you want to venture out. It is ju st the right shade!

Let me tell ya, I had to rearrange my garage this morning to make room for the cool stuff coming in. I started a new page on my blog where I share pictures of furniture before they have been redone. I’m starting to point clients to that page.

I agree. The yellow is just about the best yellow I’ve ever used. I think the name is Spiced Mustard from Benjamin Moore. Thanks for the comment!
