Parcheesi Dresser from MarthaLeoneDesign

I can’t get rid of my old Parcheesi game board. All of the plastic pieces are missing but the board, with its bold colors, symmetry of lines and character is a keeper. It became the inspiration for the design I painted on this large dresser. The design wasn’t “literally” picked up from the Parcheesi board. The game board just provided some inspiration for the design. My concept was to combine two unlikely elements: the traditional lines of the dresser with the bold crisp lines and shapes of the parcheesi design. The dresser is transported to new heights when this collision between two disparate things takes place.

Materials used
– Frog tape, regular and delicate (very good for crisp lines)
– Benjamin Moore Advance paint (great paint but needs lots of drying time between coats)
– Sand paper (sanded before applying primer)
– Benjamin Moore All Purpose Primer
– Brasso (used to clean the drawer pulls)
– A very good synthetic paint brush

Process
I sanded then primed the dresser with an oil base primer. Then I drew the design, taped it off, and painted. The type of paint used requires about 16 hours drying time between coats but is worth it.

Lessons learned
– Follow directions on paint cans. The makers of the paint know what they’re doing… if they recommend 16 hours of drying time between coats, be patient and do it.
– The recommendation was to wait for 3-5 days before applying Frog Tape to my painted surface. Because of a deadline I couldn’t wait that long, so I turned to a delicate version of Frog Tape. I was able to tape off my painted surfaces after just 1 day of drying.
